2014 Youth Work Award Winners

Youth workers and projects from Bradford, Croydon, Colchester and Portsmouth were among those honoured at the fourth annual Christian Youth Work Awards last Friday 21st November. The awards recognise excellence in church-based and other Christian youth work, and are judged by a panel of youth work experts, from a pool of public nominations.

The awards – held in the chapel of the prestigious London School of Theology - were presented across six categories. Croydon-based Alice Price was named Youth Worker of the Year for her pioneering work on the London borough’s Monks Hill estate. The prestigious Volunteer of the Year award was shared for the first time, with 18-year-old catholic lay volunteer Rose Greensmith (from Wanstead), and 70-year-old chess enthusiast David Stemp (Portsmouth) both taking away statuettes.

Youthscape’s Martin Saunders, who co-hosted the ceremony, said: “The Youth Work Awards are an opportunity to celebrate some of the fantastic youth work that happens week by week in communities across the country. We hope that the awards encourage youth workers everywhereas they continue their essential work with teenagers.”
