The fifth annual Christian Youth Work Awards took place on 20th November. The ceremony, hosted by the London School of Theology, saw seven awards given out, including the new Young Leader of the Year Award. The awards are a Youthscape project with individual awards sponsored by CYM, Existence Ltd, CPAS Ventures, Moorlands College, London School of Theology, The Methodist Church and Premier Youthwork. The awards recognise excellence in church-based and Christian youth work, and are judged by a panel of youth work practitioners and lecturers from a pool of public nominations.
With table-magic from teenage illusionist, Conor Sable, and a keynote from Youthscape's Alex Drew encouraging youth workers to continue to bring life to the communities they serve, it was an enjoyable evening for all involved. Visit our Facebook page to see the photographs from this year's event.
Eight deserving nominees went home with awards. York youth worker, Lee Kirkby, was awarded Youth Worker of the Year for his work at St Michael Le Belfry and their community project, The Storehouse. Barbara Cole won Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her service at the Pendle Youth Fellowship for over 30 years. A new category was also introduced, rewarding young leaders who are serving in their local youth groups. The inaugural award was shared by Cat Sisman from the Birmingham Diocese and Esther Lodge from Stopsley Baptist Church in Luton.
